Health Effects of Air Pollution and Solutions

Image
You can live a few weeks without food and a couple of days without water, but you’ll only make it a matter of minutes without air. Our air quality is declining all over the world due to increased particulate pollution from industry, transport, and energy usage and some areas are more affected than others. In cities like Beijing, air pollutions masks are the norm while in other urban areas, we’re just beginning to see increased rates of respiratory illnesses tied to air pollution.  What Is Air Pollution? Air pollution is a mixture of solid particles and gases present in the air we breathe. When we think of air pollution in the United States, we usually think of man-made sources, like vehicle emissions and industrial chemicals, but it can also come from natural sources like pollen, wildfires, and mold spores.  What Are the Health Effects of Air Pollution? Air pollution doesn’t just ruin the view of the skyline; it’s a major threat to public health. The World Health O...

Environmental pollution

Image
The problem of environmental pollution has become very serious in recent years all over the world. Today, the air that we inhale is polluted. Our future generations will suffer from the harmful effect of pollution if we do not tackle the problem now. There are different forms of environmental pollution like water pollution, food pollution, air pollution, noise pollution, land pollution etc. No doubt, our progress and development is the result of industrial growth and technological advancement. But, this progress has a negative influence on the environment. Pollution makes the environment unfit for living. It becomes a health hazard. The unbalanced industrial growth is the main cause of air and water pollution. In India, waste from refineries and atomic plants are dumped into the rivers or seas which pose a serious threat to the health of the people living in its surrounding areas or far away. Consequently, freshwater resources are depleting very fast and water-borne disease...

8 Tips to Follow to Reduce Pollution

Image
One of the most critical problems that our world is facing each day is pollution. For the past decades, pollution has always been seen as a destruction that is destroying the planet where we live, little by little. Some people have noticed it, some people did not, and some just don’t really care.  We all know that natural sources like volcanic eruptions, wildfires, or dust storms are also some of the causes of pollution, but we cannot blame them because we humans have no control over them. What we should be mindful of is our activities that we do everyday, because those activities are responsible for the pollution: to burning fossil fuels, construction and demolition, deforestation, or improper waste management, we can say that almost every human in this earth has at least contributed to the pollution we are experiencing up until today. Overpopulation is also one factor that affects pollution. According to research, the world's population increases 1.1% per year. This overpopulatio...

women empowerment

Image
Power is defined as the ability to influence the behaviour of others with or without restraint. The extent to which a person or group holds such power is related to the social influence they can wield. Noted French fashion designer Coco Chanel quoted, “A girl should be two things: who and what she wants”. A woman’s quest for equality with man is a universal phenomenon. What exists for men is demanded by women. Almost 50% of the world’s population is women, so treating them equally gives an impetus to the development of the society as a whole. The man of the house is traditionally considered to be the breadwinner of the family and the woman is considered to be the homemaker. Tradition and culture are considered to be the two big impediments for women empowerment. Women Empowerment is understood as a very narrow term in today’s world. It may be understood as enabling people, especially women to acquire and possess power resources in order to make decisions on their own or res...

Sleep deprivation

Image
Sleep deprivation is a general term to describe a state caused by inadequate quantity or quality of sleep, including voluntary or involuntary sleeplessness and circadian rhythm sleep disorders. Sleep is as important to the human body as food and water, but many of us don’t get enough sleep. Insufficient sleep, inadequate quality of sleep or disruptions to the sleep-wake cycle (such as those that occur with shift work or travelling to a different time zone) have consequences for how we function in the daytime, causing sleepiness and fatigue. A sleepy fatigued person is accident prone, judgement impaired and more likely to make mistakes and bad decisions. Staying awake for 24 hours leads to a reduced hand-to-eye coordination that is similar to having a blood alcohol content of 0.1. This is why sleep deprivation contributes to road accidents and work injuries. Lack of sleep can also affect a child’s school performance and could be linked to increased risk of emotional problems such as dep...
